Polyimide Tape

Polyimide tapes are manufactured by coating the polyimide film with a desired adhesive system. Film thickness ranges from 0.5 mil to 10 mils, and adhesive thickness ranges from 0.5 mil to 2 mils. CGS has the capabilities to coat both silicone and acrylic adhesives. They can be removed cleanly and they leave no residue in high temperature applications. We have also developed special adhesive systems to for special applications:

  • low outgassing
  • ultra thin
  • high temperature
  • high tack

Polyimide is naturally an amber color, but through our process, the tape can also be supplied in other colors, such as green, red, whiteblack or clear, which makes it easier for color coding.

What is polyimide tape used for?

polyimide tape such as Kapton tape has excellent electrical, chemical and temperature performance. Making it great for electronic, automotive, and general manufacturing industries.

Aerospace

Polyimide tape has been widely used in aircraft, for aerospace wires and electrical components. This is due to it having low weight, good insulating, and low out gassing characteristics.

Automotive

Polyimide tape is also ideal for wrapping switches, diaphragms, sensors, and coils in seat heaters.

Electronics manufacturing

Polyimide tape has excellent electrical isolation characteristics and is stable in a large range of temperature. Thus, in electronic manufacturing, it acts as an insulation and protection layer on electrostatic sensitive and fragile components.

3D printing

It is great for 3D printing application because it adheres very well with the ABS material. It is often used to cover the 3D printer bed so that the ABS can be extruded on top and left to cool.

Electrical Insulation

Polyimide tape is ideal for electrical applications such as coil insulation, capacitor and transformer wrapping or insulation, magnetic wire insulation.

High Temperature Masking

With its high temperature resistance of 260°C/500°F, it is the go to tape for high temperature mask during powder coating applications.

Polyimide Tape Max Temperature

Max temperature of the tape depends largely on the adhesive systems, as the film itself can handle up to 400°C/752°F.

  • Silicone adhesive does not leave a residue and generally can withstand temperatures up to 260°C/500°F. For even higher temperature performance, our special high temp silicone can resist up to 300°C/572°F.
  • Acrylic adhesive provides more tack and avoids silicone contamination. It can withstand temperatures up to 150°C/300°F.

Polyimide Tape Shelf Life

Standard shelf life is 2 years from date of manufacture, when stored in room conditions with temperature of 75 degrees F and relative humidity of 50%.
