Polyimide Tape

Polyimide tape is manufactured by coating the polyimide film with a desired silicone or acrylic adhesive system. The film thickness ranges from 0.5-10 mils and the adhesive thickness can vary from 0.5-2 mils. At CGS, we can coat various versions of silicones or acrylic adhesives. They can be easily cleaned and leave behind no residues even at high temperatures. A specially designed adhesive system is used for special applications, including:

  • High tack
  • High temperature
  • Ultra-thin
  • Low outgassing

Polyimide is amber in color, but through additional processes, the tape is also available in other colors, including white, black, green, red, and clear transparent, making it perfect for color-coding, light-shielding and many other applications.

Polyimide Tape

Polyimide tape, also known as Kapton tape, has excellent physical, electrical, and mechanical properties over a wide range of temperatures. This makes them an excellent choice for any high temperature and electrical insulation application. Such examples include, but are not limited to, coil insulation, magnetic wire insulation, automotive and aerospace electronics, high temperature powder coating masking and masking of printed circuit boards in the wave soldering process.

Aerospace

Polyimide tape has found applications in aircraft for the purpose of aerospace wires as well as electrical components. This is because it has low weight, high insulation, and a low outgassing characteristic.

Automotive

Polyimide tape is also perfect for diaphragms, sensors, seat heater coils, and switches.

Electronics manufacturing

Polyimide tape comes with high electrical isolation characteristics which makes it stable even at varying temperature ranges. This property allows it to act as a protective and insulating layer on fragile and electrostatic-sensitive components in electronic manufacturing.

3D Printing

It also has applications in 3D printing as it sticks and adheres well with ABS material. It is used for covering 3D printer beds to allow the ABS to be extruded at the top to cool down.

Electrical Insulation

PolyimideTape is also great for electrical applications which include capacitor and transformer wrapping/insulation, magnetic wire insulation, and coil insulation.

High-Temperature Masking

Polyimide tape has a temperature resistance of 260°C/500°F making it perfect for using it as a high-temperature mask for powder coating applications.

Polyimide Tape Max Temperature

The film can withstand up to 400°C/752°F as the maximum temperature of the tape largely depends on the adhesive system that is used.

  • Acrylic adhesive provides higher tack and also avoids silicone contamination. It is capable of withstanding temperatures up to 150°C/300°F
  • Silicone Adhesive leaves no residue and is capable of withstanding temperatures as high as 260°C/500°F. If your application is performed at higher temperatures, then opt for our special high temp silicone which can withstand up to 300°C/572°F

Polyimide Tape Shelf Life

Standard shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture when stored in room conditions with a temperature of 75 degrees°F and relative humidity of 50%.
